The cost per person is NZ$1,750 (USD$1,100) for the five-day Institute.  This includes lunch, coffee, and snacks each day and dinner on Thursday evening.


CLIR Aotearoa is seeking applicants who would like to improve their leadership skills in the positions that they now have, as well as those positions that they might be interested in pursuing in the future.

To help us in the selection process, we ask that you submit a cover letter, statement of goals, a letter of support, and a curriculum vitae or résumé (see Application Components below). Please send them as attachments to institutes@clir.org by October 15, 2023.

In your email, indicate your preference for the location / date of the CLIR Institute you would like to attend and whether you can only attend in one area. For an overview of each institute’s theme, please see the About page.

  • CLIR Auckland – Leading from Where You Are: October 30 – November 3, 2023
  • CLIR Wellington – Heritage, Science, Research, Academia: Reconnecting the Whole: November 6-10, 2023

Applications will be accepted until October 15 and applicants will be notified of their application’s status by no later than October 17, 2023.

Application components

Please send the following as attachments to institutes@clir.org on or before October 15, 2023. In your email, indicate your preference for the location / date of the CLIR Institute you would like to attend and whether you can only attend in one area.

  1. Cover letter (maximum two pages): Identify your interest in becoming a successful leader and summarize your work experience.
  2. Statement of goals (maximum two pages): Each institute is built upon the needs of the participants, and the deans at each institute review and work to ensure these topics are addressed. Please include goals and desired outcomes addressing the following topics:
    • From your perspective, what are the top three issues facing culture and information institutions today? Why? Have recent or current changes in the sector impacted your perspective?
    • What are your own institution’s priorities, opportunities and challenges in leveraging information and technologies for the benefit of the entire community?
    • If there was one thing you could change about your institution, what would it be and why? What is the one unique aspect of your institution you would like to keep and again, why?
  3. Letter of support: Provide a letter of reference that speaks to your readiness and ability to be a leader. The letter might come from a colleague who knows you well, a supervisor whose work you admire, or a mentor who demonstrates a method of leadership you find inspirational. This individual could be a leader from your own institution such as your vice-chancellor or director, a former participant in the U.S. Frye Leadership or Leading Change Institute who would like to recommend you for participation, or someone at another institution with whom you’ve worked closely.
  4. Curriculum vitae or résumé. Provide your current curriculum vitae or resume. This document should be no longer than five pages.


Costs and logistics

The cost per person is NZ$1,750 (USD$1,100) for the five-day Institute.  This includes lunch, coffee, and snacks each day and dinner on Thursday evening.

Participants are responsible for their own travel, lodging, and other meals.

The full tuition amount is due upon acceptance, and must be received by CLIR prior to the start of the institute.
